The 2010’s will go down in makeup history as the decade of intense makeup techniques. The contouring trend was popularized through Instagram and the Kardashian sisters, who taught beauty mavens how to enhance and recede their features by only using color cosmetics. The technique (which was stolen from the fine art world) allows make up users to play with shades that are two shades lighter and two shades darker than your skin tone and drawing light to key features.
Now, a new technique called strobing has been making an appearance across runways and red carpets. The technique is the faster and arguably more intriguing cousin of the contour trend. Instead of focusing on dark shades at the hollows of the face, strobing focuses exclusively on highlighter. Users apply highlighting products to the places where light would naturally fall on the face (Nose, chin, brow bones, etc…). By using soft illuminating shades, the skin appears radiant. Under the summer sun, the light will reflect the subtle shimmer of the product and make you stand out amongst the crowd. Whats best, a decent strobe can be applied in less than ten minutes which makes this the perfect routine for beauty mavens on the go and newbies alike.
