Nyakio (pronounced neh-kay-oh), an ethically sourced skincare collection, is Sundial Brand’s first prestige skincare line. Inspired by founder Nyakio Kamoche Grieco’s family recipes and Kenyan descent, Nyakio combines traditional with modern for today’s woman.
The collection sources ingredients from around the world, including Kenya, China, Brazil, Spain, Egypt, and India. These specific ingredients include Maneketti, Neroli, Marula, Red Ginseng, and Quinoa among others. Nyakio features a five step regimen: Cleanse, Exfoliate, Restore, Moisturize, and Treat. This regimen aims to hydrate, revitalize, smooth and provide anti-aging benefits. The variety of products can be customized for all skin types and all ages.
We tested some of Nyakio’s products and two stood out, first being The Marula & Neroli Brightening Oil from Mozambique and Morocco. It instantly provided a bright and dewy completion and we would recommend combining the oil in with your favorite moisturizer or foundation for an extra natural glow.
The other was Kenyan Coffee Lip Polish. The packaging recounts founder Nyakio Grieco’s memory of a visit to her grandmother in Kenya who was a coffee farmer. Her grandmother mixed finely ground Kenyan coffee and sugar cane and rubbed the combination onto Grieco’s skin to reveal smoother, softer skin. The Lip Polish achieved just that. It was not too abrasive but was aggressive enough to scrub away dead skin cells and uncover softer skin.
Nyakio is not only the name of its founder, but in East Africa it means “hardworking woman in the sunshine.” As part of the brand’s initiative to support women, Sundial Brand’s Community Commerce efforts have partnered with Girls Inc, an organization with a mission to help young women to achieve healthy lives, succeed academically, and acquire life skills. With Nyakio’s support, it is projected that 7,000 girls will be served in 2017. Nyakio is charting a new and exciting cultural path in skincare.
Nykaio is available exclusively in 305 Ulta stores across the US, as well as www.ulta.com/brand/nyakio
