Hearst Magazines today announced that Nina Garcia has been appointed editor-in-chief of ELLE, the No. 1 fashion magazine brand in the world, with 46 international editions. Garcia succeeds Robbie Myers, editor-in-chief since 2000, who is stepping down. The announcement was made by Hearst President and CEO Steven R. Swartz and Hearst Magazines President David Carey. Garcia will report to Hearst Magazines Chief Content Officer Joanna Coles, and begins in her new role on September 18.
Garcia has been creative director of Marie Claire since 2012; before that, she was Marie Claire’s fashion director from 2008 to 2012. She served as fashion director of ELLE from 2000 to 2008, having previously held other roles with the title since 1995. She began her fashion media career at Mirabella. While at Marie Claire, Garcia introduced franchise editorial sections including ‘Shoes First,’ which has expanded internationally as a live-event platform, as well as ‘What Nina Loves’ and ‘Fashion Week Diaries,’ which chronicle her personal style choices. Under her direction, Marie Claire’s fashion content won numerous awards, including the Accessories Council’s ACE Award and the Jewelers of America GEM Award. Garcia has also hosted the red carpet for ABC’s Oscar telecast and been a judge on the Peabody Award-winning show Project Runway since it launched in 2004.

Garcia is a New York Times bestselling author of four books on style. Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, she is a graduate of Boston University and Fashion Institute of Technology. Garcia was honored by Fashion Group International in 2010 with the prestigious Oracle Award and in the same year, received the Individual Achievement award from the Hispanic Federation. In 2015, Garcia received the Champion of Educational Excellence Award from the Oliver Scholars Program.
