KKW Fragrances, created by Kim Kardashian West and Givaudan, comes in three different scents: Crystal Gardenia, Crystal Gardenia Citrus and Crystal Gardenia Oud. According to WWD, the hero accord ,gardenia, is a nod to Kim’s very first namesake fragrance from 2009. But Kardashian’s love for gardenias goes even further back — it all began when she received a gardenia-scented perfume from her late father, Robert Kardashian, after he returned from a business trip in New York.
“It’s one that I still have and I treasure the memories that it evokes when I see the bottle,” she explained.
Originally, there was just supposed to be one scent, Crystal Gardenia, but the perfumers at Givaudan later suggested a citrus version which Kardashian ended up liking. Together, they decided to add one more riff to the set, gardenia oud, to create a trio. The Oud scent, according to Kim, is catered to the Middle Eastern market, a “place I love and go to all the time.”
As for what the scents actually smell like, that’s still a mystery. All we know for now is that Crystal Gardenia’s top note is water to “evoke a lush, wet petal effect to the opening,” Crystal Gardenia Citrus has floral top notes with “sweet facets of orange oil and bajes rose” and Crystal Gardenia Oud features bergamot and lavender.
According to Kardashian, the scents are “timeless” and “what a woman should smell like.”
The fragrances went on sale Wednesday and were available in two sizes: a 75mL bottle priced at $60, and a 30mL at $35. According to sources, the scents grossed $10 million during the first 24 hours on sale. The next trio of fragrances will be available in February.
