On Saturday, November 4, 2017, Friends of John Jay Homestead hosted more than 200 guests at their annual Founders Dinner, for cocktails, dinner, live auction and dancing. Guests included: George Bianco, Georgina Bloomberg, Emily and Oliver Bushnell, Elizabeth Miller and Jamie Dinan, Cindy and David Feureisen, Melissa and Greg Fleming, Lauren and Brian Ivanhoe, Jackie and Peter Kamenstein, Lara and Lee LeBrun, Christine & George Ledes, Lois and Kenneth Lippmann, and Patricia Raynes.
Maarten ten Holder, The Global Managing Director of Sotheby’s Luxury and Lifestyle Division, presided over the live auction, which featured homes in Bermuda and Nantucket, and an owner’s box at the 2018 Kentucky Derby. Hannah Gorman’s Dinner Thyme catered the evening. Around Town Entertainment’s After Party Band had guests dancing until the wee hours.
The event included the presentation of the Founders Award to Alexander Hamer in recognition of his ten years of service on the Board of Trustees of Friends of John Jay Homestead. He has served on both the Development and Event Committees, and has co-Chaired countless events and fundraisers including The Country Fair and the 2015 In the House fundraiser. In these various roles Alex has successfully increased the visibility and relevance of John Jay Homestead.
Alex grew up in Cheshire, England and lived there until he was 15-years-old. His passion for horses, riding and animals led him to Bedford. He and his business partner, Heather Hays, own and operate Buxton Farm out of at Grand Central Farm in North Salem, NY and in Wellington, FL. Buxton Farm is a full service show stable where they train, board, and broker sales of show and trail horses.
The Founders Award was established in 2008 by Friends of John Jay Homestead to honor local individuals and organizations that, following in the tradition of John Jay, have made extraordinary contributions to our community, state and country. Former recipients of the Founders Award include Lloyd Bedford Cox, Jr. in 2008, the Bedford Riding Lanes Association in 2009, S. Mackintosh Pulsifer in 2011, Sascha and Evan Greenberg in 2012, John H. Freund in 2013, Wendy Ross in 2014 and the Bedford Garden Club in 2016.
All proceeds benefit the Homestead’s continued role as a vital community resource through its educational programming and outdoor recreational space.
