Why was Hudson Yards the right match for L’Oréal USA?
Frédéric Rozé: Hudson Yards represents a new era in New York City. The development is transforming the West Side into a cutting-edge hub of innovation, fashion, technology, art and culture. We work alongside an amazing group of companies and get inspired by our new surroundings every day. It’s thrilling to be part of a project that will shape the next 15 to 30 years of L’Oréal.
Steve Ross: Hudson Yards is such a unique environment that it has attracted the best and brightest from all walks of life and business. Not only has L’Oréal USA been a fixture in New York City for more than half a century, but it is one of the most innovative global consumer brands. They are a perfect fit for the Hudson Yards community and their creativity and forward-thinking culture will thrive in this new neighborhood
What was the key challenge in convincing L’Oréal USA that the Hudson Yards was the right fit?
SR: Frédéric always says that L’Oréal is a 107-year-old company with the heart of a startup’ and he needed to be sure that Hudson Yards would be a place where that entrepreneurial spirit could keep growing.
What was the most important determining factor in the move?
FR: Moving to Hudson Yards gave us the opportunity to create a headquarters that was uniquely ours. We were able to design a modern space from scratch to provide the best environment, workspace, state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure to meet our current and future needs as we continue to grow our business.
SR: Hudson Yards is bringing modern, efficient office space to a city that has not built new commercial space in decades and, unfortunately, not remained globally competitive in that area. For world-leading brands, Hudson Yards presents an opportunity to custom design and reinvent work spaces. The state-of-the art offices that L’Oréal has created at 10 Hudson Yards include an interactive virtual retail room for advanced retail planning, a technical salon and treatment room for product evaluation, and a learning center for employee trainings. These unique spaces could not have been realized anywhere else in New York.
Why are Hudson Yards so well suited to luxury and prestige brands as well as the next generation of managers (i.e. millennials)?
FR: A city within a city, Hudson Yards provides a dynamic workspace for millennials who seek inspiration and a balance of work-life experiences. Our new headquarters was built for the next generation of business leaders and reflects L’Oréal’s culture of collaboration and creativity. It’s a modern, sustainable and innovative new home for a modern, sustainable and innovative L’Oréal USA.
SR: The world is changing; people want to live where they work and they want to work in a true 24/7 mixed-use community. Hudson Yards is exactly that, and it is a model for the city of the future. The west side of Manhattan is growing. It’s where young, successful millennials want to live and work. And for the luxury retailers and prestige brands, Hudson Yards is now a perfect place to serve these target audiences.
