Furthering its position as the preeminent “see and be seen” destination on the Palm Beach culinary scene, Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa welcomed more than 200 guests on Thursday, February 18, 2016 to the grand opening of Breeze Ocean Kitchen, a stunning redesigned oceanfront restaurant concept led by Executive Chef Josh Thomsen and Food & Beverage Director Tito Rodriguez-Torres.
Guests mingled as they sipped hand-crafted cocktails such “The Hound” and “Bahama Mama” and sampled freshly-made Ceviche, Mahi Mahi & Cubano Tacos, along with a Paella action station, and ending the evening with Key Lime Pops.
Designed by the resort’s creative experts, the seaside social hub exudes a distinctly Palm Beach style and sensibility that is chic and inviting. Awash in pale yellow and blue hues, the space is a subtle reflection of the recently re-imagined guest room aesthetic.
“Breeze Ocean Kitchen is an exciting example of the fresh updates that are making our Eau Palm Beach brand a hallmark of the new Palm Beach lifestyle,” said Michael King, the resort’s managing director. “Our local guests, especially, will love the easy access to this oceanside oasis, with our central location and complimentary valet parking. Whether it’s for a sunny lunch or vibrant Tapas at Five, a visit to Breeze Ocean Kitchen feels like a true getaway.”
The restaurant’s airy and sophisticated furnishings seat up to 120 and are punctuated with striking design details such as a runway fire feature that lights up evening lounge areas. A “look out” bar top floats above the resort’s private beach to offer extraordinary views of the sea and Technicolor sunsets. Innovative GPS-controlled slat roofing adjusts to allow both optimal sunshine and protection from afternoon showers. The relaxed yet energized space is softened by lush foliage and during the evening hours and twinkling lights set a magical stage.
“Breeze Ocean Kitchen offers one of Palm Beach County’s few oceanfront dining experiences, and certainly one of the most spectacular,” Chef Thomsen said. “We’ve created a stunning retreat that lets you relax with the sound of the waves, the ocean breeze in your hair, while indulging in a menu with bright flavors, such as our Cubano Tacos, Ceviche and Mojo Florida Pink Shrimp Skewers. Sit back and enjoy a hand-crafted cocktail, local draft beer or ‘spiked’ milkshake.”
The inventive new menu designed by Chef Thomsen stretches throughout the day with offerings that reflect the sun-splashed Palm Beach lifestyle and celebrate the Atlantic’s bounteous “fruits de mer.” A focus on Floridian flavors is brought to life with spices, styles and preparations that infuse hints of the Caribbean, Latin America and Asia throughout.
Lunch and evening menu options are clever takes on poolside noshing with new standards such as: Island Chips & Salsa, which combines plantain, taro root and boniato chips, paired with a trio of guacamole, tomato and mango salsas; Cubano Tacos with Berkshire pork, house made pickles, Swiss cheese and mustard; Lettuce Cups filled with chopped chicken, coconut, curry, cashews and a hint of pineapple; and Local Caught Ceviche simply prepared with citrus, fresh black pepper and jalapeños. For extravagant celebrations of the modern Palm Beach lifestyle, the Chilled Seafood Platter is a decadent specialty, beautifully presented and overflowing with Maine lobster, oysters on the half shell, shrimp, king crab legs, ceviche and seaweed salad.
Sun-splashed settings call for icy treats and the “Fr-EAU-zen” menu of chilled sweets include: House-made Coconut Sorbet served in a fresh coconut; Key Lime Pops; spiked milkshakes such as the Cuba Libra with rum, cola and vanilla ice cream and decadent virgin milkshakes such as The Lunch Box, a sweet concoction that combines vanilla bean ice cream, peanut butter and grape jelly.
Options for toasting to the good life abound with a vintage cocktail program that reinvents classic beachside libations with the most current mixology techniques and trends. A modern twist on the Bahama Mama incorporates Black Rabbit cold press coffee along with rum, coconut, orange, pineapple and lemon juices; and The Hound kicks up the standard Greyhound with vodka infused with grapefruit peel and pink peppercorns, grapefruit juice, Peychaud’s bitters and Bittermens “Hellfire” bitters. Signature liquid experiences include a series of local tap takeovers helmed by the area’s finest family-owned craft breweries, all located in Palm Beach County.
A sizzling setting for couples, groups, solo sunset gazers and private parties, Breeze Ocean Kitchen is open daily from 11 a.m. with lunch and cocktail service until 5 p.m. and evening tapas and specialty cocktails available from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. For more information please visit www.eaupalmbeach.com/dining.
