More than 2,000 beauty industry executives gathered on the evening of March 8th  to discover and evaluate the latest beauty products as CEW kicks off its 2017 Beauty Insider Awards season.

The CEW Beauty Insider Awards is the industry’s biggest celebration of innovation and creativity and helps the industry and consumers discover the most innovative new products. Established in 1994, they continue to be the only beauty awards selected by the beauty industry executives – CEW members. This year will be the largest to date, with over 900 products entered across 40 award categories from over 470 brands.

The annual Product Demonstration provides the setting for CEW members to discover and test over 780 participating product entries before voting for the finalists at CEW.org/Vote. Voting is open for eligible CEW members from March 8 through March 22.

The finalists will be announced live on Twitter on April 4th. CEW’s Board of Governors and select industry experts will then vote to determine the winners, based on innovation, delivery system and packaging.

Winners of the prestigious awards will be announced at the CEW’s Beauty Insider Awards Luncheon May 12.

“Winning a CEW Beauty Insider Award is one of the highest honors in the beauty industry, which is why we have a record number of products entered this year,” says Carlotta Jacobson, President of CEW. “The Beauty Awards is a celebration of the creativity in our industry, and we’re excited to kick off the event season with the Product Demonstration where our members can discover the latest innovations in beauty.”

 

2017 Highlights: 

Indie Spotlight: Increasing its commitment to emerging indie beauty brands, this year CEW has added three new Indie award categories, Indie Skincare, Indie Makeup, and Indie Fragrance, in addition to the annual Indie Brand Beauty Award category, all presented by Financo.

With over 700 CEW Members from indie brands, CEW is proud to announce the creation of the new Indie Advisory Group (IAG). “For over a decade now CEW’s Beauty Awards have celebrated the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of small, independent beauty companies, and forming this advisory group is an important next step in our support for indie brands,” said Carlotta Jacobson, President of CEW. “Through our carefully selected indie advisors, we’ve created a place where indie brands can gain additional knowledge and access to information within the field to encourage their brand growth.”

IAG members include top members of the finance, retail and media spaces, along with indie founders and suppliers.

Along with the creation of the IAG, indie brands entered in the Beauty Awards can take advantage of CEW’s new “Indie Learning Lab,” an exclusive event taking place in the Altman Building prior to the start of the Product Demo, which will feature panels by top industry experts around growing indie brands.

Partnership with Beautystreams Unveils Intercolor Trends: Further spotlighting CEW’s focus on innovation, for the first time, CEW joins forces with Beautystreams to unveil Intercolor’s 2018/2019 trends in a visual, immersive installation during the Demo. This proprietary information is exclusive only to CEW in the U.S., giving attendees access to intel they are unable to receive from anywhere else.

Iconic Consumers’ Choice: In 2017, CEW is partnering with Meredith Corporation for the second time to present the Iconic Consumers’ Choice Beauty Award, giving consumers the opportunity to name the Beauty Award winners in this category. Following the announcement of the Iconic Consumers’ Choice Beauty Award Finalists in late March, consumers will have the opportunity to vote online for the winners. Two Iconic Consumers’ Choice Award winners (one in mass and one in prestige) will be announced at CEW’s Beauty Award Luncheon in May.

Tech Savvy: This year, CEW is partnering with the app Lovelyloot, who will be featuring a new Beauty Awards category that will include all the Beauty Award entries, allowing members to track, save and take notes on their favorite products from the Product Demonstration before voting for the finalists.

Tools of the Trade: A new category for the CEW Product Demonstration, presented by Anisa International. This year, innovative tools that aide/enhance the application for makeup products for the face will be featured.

Earth Friendly: Finally, CEW will announce the Sustainability Excellence award, presented by Firmenich, which will replace the formerly known, Eco Beauty Award. The award was established to encourage taking steps toward sustainability within the beauty industry.

The sold-out Product Demonstration is being held at the Metropolitan Pavilion and the Altman Building in Manhattan.
